The old lady looking for the beef, Twiggy taking the skinny model look to fashionable extremes, the gecko who sells car insurance - who could have predicted what would catch the public's eye and ear? Other times, the talent is so great that it can't be derailed, and you get to listen to Elvis from the 1950s to forever. Marilyn Monroe had what it took and we still know it when we watch TCM in the new millennium. Anyone who sings like Barbara Streisand deserves to be famous. Creations like Miss Piggy and the cat in the hat are too good to be ignored. Of course, the worst of the worst will be remembered, too. The mighty Casey is immortalized in poetry for striking out. Benedict Arnold is remembered by history students who forget many better men. Some become celebrities because it is all staged.
